Students at Show Camp

The scoop on Ekka life

Show Camp is an incredible opportunity for junior journalists to report on life at Ekka - by living at Ekka!

2012 will be Show Camp's 84th year and 21st edition of the Ekka Courier. Show Camp selects 20 students from year 6 and 7 classes across Queensland. They use digital technologies to share their Ekka experiences in the 'Ekka Courier' and in podcasts on the Brisbane Show Camp website.

The Camp provides an opportunity for students to:

  • Develop skills in the areas of digital media and news writing
  • Be involved in group and individual work in planning, researching, writing and editing news stories; and recording and editing electronic media
  • Enjoy the activities of Ekka
  • Meet new friends.

Getting into Show Camp

Students are selected on the merits of two documents on specific subjects and genres set by the Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre. The documents must be written by the student without the aid of helpers such as parents or teachers.

Staff at the Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre assess the entries, and chosen students travel via train, bus or plane to stay at Ekka. Students get involved in special educational activities as well as enjoying Ekka.
